Acetylsalicylic acid has been one of the most widely used drugs in the last fifty years, usually known under the brand name aspirin. This drug treats pain, fever, arthritis and inflammations, and is sometimes used to reduce the risk of heart attacks. Acetylsalicylic acid has an additional use in helping with the prevention of excess bleeding from wounds. However, a doctor's supervision is recommended in cases where Acetylsalicylic acid is used in the treatment of cardiovascular conditions. Those with bleeding disorders like hemophiliacs and those suffering from stomach bleeding are advised against using Acetylsalicylic acid. Children with fever or flu symptoms as well as those with allergic reactions should not use Acetylsalicylic acid either.
