Welcome to STEM Girls Books, a picture book series inspired by women in STEM that introduces little girls to the big possibilities of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). ABOUT ZELDA THE CURIOUS Always curious, questioning and exploring, Zelda takes girls on an unpredictable journey to discover the possibilities of engineering! Zelda the Curious is part of the STEM Girls Books series. Designed for ages 3-8, these beautifully illustrated picture books show young girls (and their families) how a child’s natural interests and traits such as curiosity and creativity can lead to exciting career possibilities in STEM, long before self doubt and stereotypes begin pushing girls away from these fields. Each book explores a specific STEM field through the eyes of a spunky, lovable character who leads readers on a journey of discovery and problem solving. At the end of each story, readers will meet a role model – a professional woman succeeding in the STEM fields – and will learn about her exciting career. (Ages 3-8; Pre-K through Grade 2) Reading about "Zelda the Curious" and her adventures in assembling and disassembling the world around her reminded me so much of my childhood! It was so fun to see that this is a normal part of being a STEM girl and to share in these quests with Zelda. I especially loved how the creative team at STEM Girls Books showcased the ideas that Zelda had about how certain items worked because it shows the creative genius behind every small child trying to understand the world. The inclusion of information about what STEM careers could come from being a tinkerer like Zelda is such a great touch, as is including the snippet about Jennifer Grigsby, a real life Mechanical Engineer. I have a niece who is very much like Zelda and I can't wait to share this book with her and my sister! -Tamara Robertson, Actress and Chemical & Biomolecular Engineer I love the STEM Girls Book series both as a father of two girls and as an elementary science educator. They fill a much needed gap in children's literature and are a must-have for every elementary teacher and parent of young girls. It is almost impossible to find a book for young children that is STEM focused and features female role models. These books hit the trifecta! Aside from the series title, they're not just for girls. Young boys would enjoy them just as much. The books are just fun stories of curious kids doing what kids do. My favorite part is that at the end of each book, there is a connection between the interest of the character and the real life STEM career that shares those same interests: aerospace engineer, chemist, and a mechanical engineer. Just the fact that I get to have a discussion with my children/students about how they relate to the characters and then discuss a career they might be interested in is HUGE! How often do you get to bring up STEM careers with kids in a normal day? With these books, all the time! -David Ware, Elementary Science Educator and Parent STEM Girls Books is a picture book series designed to show young girls that the world of science, technology, engineering and math is a pretty cool and fun place to be. For most of her professional career, Kristi Grigsby has been a marketing executive telling stories for the companies she represents. Along the way she has earned more than a dozen prestigious awards for excellence in print, web and video marketing. In addition to servicing clients, she is now taking time to revive her passion for writing children's books. Kristi is also 'Mom' to two STEM girls. Seeing the lack of resources for young girls with strong aptitude for STEM, she was inspired one day to do something about it. Six days later, the business plan was done, ten interviews were conducted, the first four stories were written and STEM Girls Books was launched in January 2017. There has never been a more important time to inspire young girls with the exciting possibilities of careers in science, technology, engineering and math, and Kristi is honored to have a role in that.
