This book covers the first step in the writing process: brainstorming. The story follows a boy as he discovers the right way to brainstorm in the development of a story he wants to write about a day he spent in the park with his best friend. With beautiful illustrations by the talented artist, Milena Radeva, this story will engage, entertain, and inform students about brainstorming and about using the writing process. Jack Magnus for Readers' Favorite Every so often, I come across a children's story that has me smiling from ear to ear, literally. Terri Kelley's Brainstorming: It's Raining Ideas! is one of those books. Kelley introduces creative writing processes to children. While the book is geared to children, it's one of those books that could be on any aspiring writer's bookshelf, perfect for those moments when the words just don't seem to come and despair begins to set in. Take a moment to enjoy and see how the incredible artwork meshes with the developing story-line. What a great book this is! As with all of the books in my Writing is a Process series, Brainstorming: It's Raining Ideas is told from the point-of-view of a young child who is trying to write his own story. She struggles with coming up with something to write and his teacher shows him how to use the strategy of brainstorming. This gets his memory going and before he knows it, he is writing a great story with lots of detail. I love helping children to succeed. This entire series is dedicated to that goal. Terri Kelley, M.Ed, is the author of the Writing is a Process series and many other children's picture books as well as of the chapter book series, Gingerly. Her passion for writing and reading began when she was a very young girl. She was raised in Copperas Cove, Texas where she grew up in the country with horses and lots of freedom to explore her environment. It was a idyllic childhood. Terri is the mother of three adult children: Melynda, Jessica, and James. As they grew, each of her kids provided Terri with many fond memories which she incorporates into some of her writing. In her life, Terri has held a couple of different careers. Her previous one was as a teacher and reading specialist in Tomball, TX. It was there that she became aware of the kinds of books children enjoyed reading. She also noticed areas in need of good children's books. You will find many of her books respond to these needs. Terri is very happily married to her best friend, Michael. Together, they live in Eugene, OR with their black Labrador, Oliver. Terri and Michael enjoy traveling together, fishing, going to the movies, and, of course, reading great books. They have many good friends with whom they enjoy spending time as well.
