Amphotericin is an antifungal agent used to treat yeast and fungi infections. Amphotericin is injected into a vein. Below you will find the basic dosage commonly used by many physicians to give Amphotericin to their patients. However, depending on the medical status and patient's history, doctors might give a different order. The patient is not supposed to change the dosage, stop or take medication without the doctors' or health provider's consultation. The usual adult dosage is;
- Fungal infection prophylaxis is 10mg to 20mg daily
- Aspergillosis is 0.25mg daily
- Invasive is 0.5 to 0.6 mg daily
- Coccidioidomycosis respiratory infection is 0.5 to 1 mg
- The usual Pediatric dosage is;
- Blastomycosis is 0.5 to 1 mg daily
- Candidemia is 0.6mg to 1 mg daily
- Cryptococcal meningitis 0.25 to 1 mg daily
Amphotericin Side Effects
Amphotericin is known for its severe and potentially lethal side effects with acute reactions after infection. These results may sometimes come due to prolong use of the drug that may be a negative impact on the patient rather than giving help. Digitalis glycosides may potentiate digitalis toxicity reducing potassium level in the body. Flucytosine increases the toxicity of flucytosine. Imidazoles it may introduce fungal resistance to Amphotericin. Nephrotoxic medications enhance the potential for drug,induced renal toxicity in the body.
