Curology Review: Your Final Answer To Acne?

In

Acne is a perennial problem for many people. For many people, acne doesn’t stop at puberty – it continues and advances well into adulthood. This causes considerable distress to many people. They become uncomfortable showing their face in public. They might try abrasive and potentially harmful techniques to rid acne from their face. Curology is an alternative means to get into these troublesome pores and root out the problem.

Curology was founded by two dermatologists – Dr. David Lortscher and Dr. Nancy Satyr. As dermatologists, they had first-hand experience not only with patient experiences but also with the effects of each medicine, too. This experience led them to formulate their own medicine, Curology; a tailored therapeutic approach to the delivery of anti-acne treatment.

As of June 2017, Curology costs $19.99 per month. However, Curology offer a free trial to sample their product.

Featured in prominent publications such as Vogue, Cosmopolitan and Glamour, Curology has, perhaps ironically, made a permanent mark in the treatment of acne.

The purpose of Curology is to eliminate the presence of acne.  As an infection, acne is amenable to treatment. Curology offers a tailored approach to acne treatment, allowing you to diversify and change the ingredients in each treatment. Each month, progress is reviewed by an assigned expert who, in consultation with each client, charts a treatment course on how best to proceed.

Curology Pros

Curology comes with many significant advantages. These include:

  • The medicine is formulated by experienced dermatologists with years of experience dealing with clients and the effects of individual acne medicines.
  • There is a well-established evidence-base for each of their main ingredients.
  • Tailored approach to acne treatment – meaning treatment varies depending on what works and what doesn’t.

Curology Cons

Though Curology comes with many advantages, it also comes with its own drawbacks. These include:

  • Length of treatment. Treatment may last many months, depending on how well the medicine works. However, acne treatment tends to be long-term no matter what therapeutic approach is pursued.
  • Clients may find it challenging to adhere to monthly instalments. Given the cost of more advanced therapeutic techniques, the cost of Curology is modest at best.

Does Curology Cure You Acne?

curology review

Acne medicines have come in for a hard time. For many people, they work and, for many others, they don’t. This can prove frustrating for many people who see the response their friend or family member had to a drug, yet the same therapeutic effect does not manifest for themselves. What’s different about Curology is that they’ve resolved this problem. The team at Curology offer a tailored, individualised approach to the treatment of acne.

So, what does this individualized approach really mean for patients?

It means you can determine what works and what doesn’t. Curology state on their website that they use the following active ingredients:

  • Clindamycin
  • Azelaic acid
  • Tretinoin
  • Niacinamide
  • Vitamin C
  • Zinc pyrithione

Their process works like this. Each patient is assigned, by their designated clinician, a ratio of three main active ingredients. Every month, high-resolution photos are posted onto their patient management database. This allows both clinician and patient to assess how well the medicine is working. If things improve steadily, the current ratio of ingredients stays. If it doesn’t, certain tweaks are made and a new approach is adopted.

This is what separates Curology from competing medicines. It determines which medicines work best for you and, in the long term, helps to attenuate the severity of your acne. It’s a unique approach that has garnered significant media attention, not just by top health magazines but also by many distinguished health experts, too.

How Does Curology Work?

The process by which Curology works is outlined above. It’s a process that seeks to distil down the best formulation for your individual case of acne.

However, the means through which this formulation works has not yet been discussed. We briefly mentioned their active ingredients. One of those ingredients is clindamycin. This ingredient has been used for many years in the treatment of acne. In fact, clindamycin is used in a wide and diverse array of bacterial infections including middle ear infections, pneumonia and MRSA.

Clindamycin works as a protein synthesis inhibitor. Proteins are essential to the functioning of any microorganism. By disrupting their synthesis, clindamycin fundamentally disrupts the way the organism works. However, clindamycin doesn’t actively kill bacteria. Instead, it slows the rate at which bacteria grow (a phenomenon referred to as “bacteriostatic”).

The medicine also works by including some well-established anti-acne treatments. These include tretinoin (a version of vitamin A), vitamin C and zinc pyrethione. Zinc is widely used in creams to improve the health of skin. A rich addition of vitamins A and C only adds to this effect. Together, and by tweaking the formulation of the above ingredients, Curology works to deplete bacterial activity and suppress the spread of acne.
