Formoterol is an inhaled medication that treats asthma, airway constriction and bronchospasm. It can be used to treat chronic conditions like COPD, emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma. Formoterol helps relieve symptoms of these conditions, like coughing, difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. Formoterol can also be used to prevent wheezing, but it should not be used to treat an asthma or a COPD attack.

- Chronic bronchitis
Dosage of formoterol depends on the individual taking it and the condition being treated. You should always take medication precisely as your doctor prescribes it. formoterol is approved for patients over the age of five years and is taken as a preventive medication, not a rescue medication in the middle of an incident. Below you will find a typical dosage of formoterol.
- Prevention of exercise-induced bronchospasm: one puff of the inhaler (12 mcg of the drug) at least 15 minutes prior to exercise
- For Asthma: one puff of the inhaler (12 mcg of the drug) every 12 hours
- For COPD: one puff of the inhaler (12 mcg of the drug) every 12 hours or 20 mcg of formoterol by nebulizer every 12 hours
