  • Hydrocodone/Phenylephrine Uses

Hydrocodone-phenylephrine is used to moderate and treat severe cough and decongest the patient's nasal cavity. It suppresses cough by bombarding the cough center in the brain. Hydrocodone is less potent and requires half as much as oxycodone in order to achieve pupillary contraction. However, it remains very effective and takes effect from 10 minutes to 30 minutes after admission. Patients who are allergic to opium-made products, hydrocodone, and phenylephrine should not take this drug. In addition, patients with difficulty in breathing, those with intracranial lesions, and those taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors should also stay away from it.
