Acetic acid/Hydrocortisone is a combination medication used to treat external ear (otic) infections such as swimmer's ear. Acetic acid/Hydrocortisone is made of two drugs. Acetic acid functions by inhibiting the development of fungus and bacteria. Hydrocortisone is a steroid which helps to reduce the redness, itching and swelling from the infection. There are many hydrocortisone products out there which can be bought with no prescription. A few products require that you have a prescription. Seek advice from your pharmacist on product choice best for your situation. Note this medication may be used for other purposes not discussed here.

The dosage of Acetic acid/Hydrocortisone varies from one patient to another. Adhere to your doctor's instructions or the guidelines on the label. - On the affected part apply 2-4 times daily

Like all other drugs, side effects may appear when taking Acetic acid/Hydrocortisone: These include;
- burning sensation,
- dryness or irritation at the application area
- unusual hair growth
- skin thinning or discoloration
- 'hair bumps' or stretch-marks

If the treated section begins to bleed, particularly if you're using Acetic Acid for anal itching, alert your doctor right away. A very severe allergic response to this drug is unusual. However, get speedy medical attention if you observe any symptoms of a severe allergic effect, including:
- Trouble breathing
- Itching/swelling (throat/face/tongue especially)
- Severe dizziness
