Insulin Aspart Dosage
Insulin Aspart is injected intravenously by a nurse or a doctor in a clinical setting, or by the patient himself, 5 to 15 minutes before meals. Dosage is adjusted to achieve the target level of blood glucose, based on frequent glucose measurement, exercise, and diet.
For type 1 diabetes
Conventional regimen twice daily for adults, two-thirds of which is injected before breakfast while one-third before the evening meal. Intensive regimen is three or more injections daily the regular dosage is twice in the morning and evening along with short-acting insulin injected before meals. Daily insulin requirements are:
- Initial dose - 0.5 to 0.8 unit/kg
- Honeymoon phase - 0.2 to 0.5 unit/kg
- Split dose therapy - 0.5 to 1.2 units/kg
- Insulin resistance - 0.7 to 2.5 units/kg
- For young diabetics, 0.8 to 1.5 units/kg maybe needed during adolescence.
For type 2 diabetes
Insulin asp art dosage is individualized with consideration of factors like glucose levels, body weight, and fat as well as physical activity and insulin sensitivity. Daily requirements are:
- Initial dose 0.1unit/kg, 0.5 to 1.5 units/kg for children
- Maintenance dose ormonotherapy 1.5 to 2.5 units/kg
Insulin Aspart Side Effects
Insulin Aspart causes changes in the blood sugar, which can be low or high. Side effects of the drug can be:
