  • macitentan Uses

Macitentan is used in the treatment of high blood pressure in the lungs. This condition is also known as pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). Macitentan is an endothelin receptor antagonist. The drug, therefore, works by blocking the effect of the endothelin, a substance found in the lungs. Endothelin and its receptors may bring about a variety of effects such as hypertension. Macitentan prevents the combination of the endothelin to its receptors, thus blocking its effect. This in turn leads to the reduction of hypertension in the body. Macitentan may also be used in the treatment of other medical conditions as may be determined by your doctor.
