Nadolol works by slowing the heart rate and decreasing the amount of blood the heart pumps. Nadolol helps reduce blood pressure, makes the heart pump blood more efficiently, and reduces workload of the heart. In people with atrial fibrillation, doctors may use if off label to control the heart rate. Other uses of nadolol are prevention of migraine headache and bleeding veins in patients with portal hypertension that is caused by cirrhosis.
