    Nexium is used when an individual's body produces excess acid in the stomach. Excess acid causes ulcers (gastric and duodenal), erosive esophagitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Not only does Nexium treat stomach conditions, it is also used to prevent stomach ulcers in individuals who are prescribed to medications that may flare up stomach issues. Nexium can be prescribed by your medical professional or is available over the counter at your pharmacy. Below you will find the different uses for Nexium (esomeprazole).

  • Nexium Dosage

    Nexium dosage is dependent on the medical condition that it is being used to treat. The over-the-counter version of the drug is available in 20mg. Nexium should be taken one hour before meals and should not be taken for more than two weeks unless instructed by a doctor. Depending on an individual's medical condition, a doctor may prescribe a different dosage. The following dosage refers to the average dosage prescribed to children and adults.

    Nexium Dosage Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers

    • Nexium Capsule or Suspension Adults: 40mg once daily for ten days

    Nexium Dosage Erosive Esophagitis

    • Nexium Capsule or Suspension Adults: 20mg to 40mg once daily for four to eight weeks

    When taking Nexium, individuals may experience different side effects. Note, not all side effects are listed here.
