    Plegridy is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). Plegridy is not the cure for MS, but it helps in reducing the number of incidences of relapses and slows down the worsening of the disease. Plegridy belongs to the interferon class of drugs and is given by subcutaneous injections once every 2 weeks.The active substance in Plegridy, peginterferon beta 1-a calms down the immune system and prevents relapses of multiple sclerosis. Interferon beta 1-a is a naturally produced form of protein. The interferon in Plegridy is produced through recombinant DNA technology' meaning it is made by cells that have received a DNA making them able to produce human interferon.   • Plegridy Dosage

    Dosage of Plegridy depends on the individual and the condition being treated. Plegridy is an injectable medication; your doctor will teach you how to administer the injection. Before injecting Plegridy, the injection site should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol. The injection site can be changed each time to reduce injury under the skin. Patients should never inject Plegridy into skin that is infected, irritated, scarred or bruised. Health care professionals should train patients on right procedures for self-administration of subcutaneous injections using prefilled pen or syringe. Below you will find a typical dosage of Plegridy.

    • Plegridy should be injected under the skin, in the back of the upper arm, abdomen or thigh as directed by a doctor
    • The recommended dosage is 125 mg every 14 days
    • Patients should start with 63 micrograms daily, and then on the 15th day, increase the dose to 94 micrograms, reaching the full dose of 125 micrograms on the 29th day
    • After that, patients continue with the 125 micrograms dose every 14 days

    Like any drug, Plegridy may cause side effects. If you experience severe or persistent side effects, contact your doctor. When a patient first starts using Plegridy, flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea, weakness, muscle pain, and headache may occur. These will typically dissipate with time.
