  • Procapan Uses

Procapan is commonly prescribed to treat ventricular tachycardia, which is a certain type of heart irregularity. Procapan evens out the heartbeat by blocking some electrical signals in the heart which are known to contribute to heartbeat irregularities. Taking Procapan regularly will help patients regain and maintain a normal, steady, and healthy heartbeat. It also protects them from serious, and sometimes life-threatening, effects of ventricular tachycardia. Heart irregularities can regularly cause conditions such as heart attacks if left untreated for too long. Patients taking Procapan should be regularly monitored by a physician. In some rare cases physicians may prescribe Procapan for other conditions.

    • Ventricular Tachycardia
  • Procapan Dosage

Procapan is usually prescribed as a pill or tablet to be taken orally. However, it may also be prescribed for administration as an injection given in a medical facility. This allows doctors to more closely monitor the patient receiving treatment. Dosage varies greatly from case to case depending upon the patient's age, weight, condition, and response to treatment.

    • Normal oral doses for adults range from 250 mg to 625 mg taken every 3 hours.
    • Procapan, in some cases, can increase the risk of death and deplete bone marrow cells, and thus is only prescribed in cases where the heart arrythmia is life-threatening.
  • Procapan Side Effects

Use of Procapan may result in some unwanted side effects. However, if Procapan is prescribed the physician has ascertained that the benefits will outweigh any risks. Common side effects of Procapan can include:

    • nausea/vomiting
    • dizziness
    • loss of appetite
    • bitter taste in the mouth
    • diarrhea

Alert your physician if any of those conditions become persistent or particularly worrisome. Rarer but more serious side effects of Procanbid can include:

    • signs of liver problems
    • symptoms of heart failure
    • abdominal pain
    • mood changes
    • chest pain
    • seizures

Consult with your physician as soon as possible if you experience any of those effects. Seek emergency medical attention if you experience symptoms of a severe allergic reaction after taking Procapan.

  • Procapan Interactions

Some other medications may interact with Procapan in a way that decreases its effectiveness and/or increases certain side effects. Provide your physician with a complete list of any medications and supplements that you are currently taking or plan to take during treatment before starting Procapan. This allows the physician to ensure that negative interactions are avoided. Some medications that are known to interact with Procapan include:

Avoid those products while taking Procapan unless otherwise instructed by a physician. Limit alcoholic beverages, as alcohol can decrease the amount of Procapan in the bloodstream.
